A summer wedding looks easy and is not. Heat, an outdoor ceremony and a long afternoon all work against a delicate outfit.
Light, but with body
Choose the lightest fabric that still holds its shape: a crepe, a light silk, a cotton with some weight. Fabric that collapses in the heat will look tired by the reception.
Colour in strong sun
Clear colour photographs better than pale in hard light: a confident blue, green or coral beats a washed pastel, and it holds up in pictures. Keep white, cream and ivory out of the main colour.
Shoes and the ground
Outdoor summer venues mean grass, gravel and heat. A block heel, a wedge or a good flat will carry you through the day. Take a spare pair if the evening will be long.
The takeaway · Light cloth that holds its shape, colour that survives the sun, and a shoe that survives the grass.
