Summer at work is two climates in one day: a hot commute and an office air-conditioned like a fridge. Plan for both or you will be cold at the desk and overdressed on the way there.
Light cloth, same structure
Keep the shirt, the trouser and the shoe, and move them into summer cloth: a lighter wool or cotton trouser, an open-weave shirt, a loafer or a light derby. The structure still reads as work.
The office layer
Carry a light knit, an unlined jacket or a fine cardigan for the air conditioning. It is the one piece that makes a summer work outfit usable indoors.
What to leave behind
Shorts, flip-flops and vest tops are not office pieces, however hot it is. Open-toe shoes and sleeveless tops depend on the workplace, so take the room's temperature before you take the chance.
The takeaway · Dress for the street in light cloth, and carry the one layer the office needs.
